Community

We recognize that strong communities are the foundation for the quality of life and positive environment Saskatchewan people deserve. Credit unions invest in the dreams that help our members and communities succeed. For us, investing in people extends far beyond business relationships. It’s an essential part of who we are.

Annually, credit unions give back over $2.5 million to local causes and organizations.

When disaster strikes, credit unions become collection points for Canadian Red Cross disaster relief. And each year, credit unions through the province support the Terry Fox Run, Telemiracle and the Children’s Health Foundation.

Credit Union employees also contribute thousands of hours of volunteer time to events and fund-raisers in their communities.

Crossroads Credit Union made significant contributions to the communities we serve in 2006. This is something we are very proud of and very committed to. We donated in excess of $75,000 in cash, merchandise and calendars to many community programs, groups and members.

Crossroads Credit Union Donates $10,000 to Digital Mammography

The Crossroads Credit Union has presented The Health Foundation with a cheque for $10,000 to be used toward the purchase of digital mammography equipment. "We are extremely supportive of The Health Foundation's campaign to bring digital mammography equipment to our region," said George Stinka, President of the Crossroads Credit Union, left. "In addition to the healthcare benefits of this equipment, the Crossroads Credit Union board and members understand that investing in our healthcare infrastructure by making sure we have modern state-of-the-art equipment, makes it easier to attract medical and business professionals to live in our communities. That is very important to all of us," Mr. Stinka continued. "This equipment is very expensive at a cost of just over $800,000, and that means we are all going to have to contribute what we can. In addition to making this donation, we are helping in other ways, like selling The Health Foundation's lottery tickets, and participating in television commercials encouraging people to support the fundraising campaign," said Jim Rediger, CEO of the Crossroads Credit Union.

Dress Down Fridays and Staff Volunteering

The proceeds are pooled from all branches and donated to a local charity. These donations totalled approximately $1,200.00 in 2006 and the funds went to various charities. Our staff continues to be involved in a number of community activities. Total volunteer hours contributed by our staff in our communities exceeded 2200 hours in 2006.
